2/26/15; Week 02: Technology Tools For You
This blog is going to go a little different in direction since prior posts were more focused on business. Now we are headed toward the area of pedagogy, more specifically, TESOL.
Here is a clip of my cool vocabulary expansion gradient scale lesson on fast and slow movement words from my (now I think boring) ONLY ZOOM virtual classes. Before seeing the list below, I thought Zoom was enough, and great. Now I re-consider. You too can turn your shabby Zoom chic!
I teach English everyday. I have about 5 different groups or individuals total. That is all I really need. I have my own business since 2019 but I have been teaching English since 2004. You can see the business here at www.tramitesytraducciones.com It doesn’t make much but I can help pay bills and food! It is so important to be able to do this, but it is so hard to juggle with this semester. It is the hardest semester of my life. I think I have too many classes for my life situation so I ask for prayers. My kids, for example, turned in my quiz or the computer turned it in blank and I lost points because of this for this week. I left it open and was doing other homework and had lunch and totally forgot about all the open windows. This week I will report on a class I taught with two beginning English learners. We had a PowerPoint on Garfield's daily activities. We went through and took turns reading with these two sisters who are my students virtually. I think that my students are going to have a great time because I left them with an audio about the days of the week song and the months of the year song. They were not familiar with the pronunciation. It seems as though they have had little fun because even though they are teens, they will also watch some other songs from YouTube made for native children.
In order to provide a level of oral automaticity in the English language for my students, I will try to not only focus on grammar, and incorporate timely movement of language forms into the class constantly. We need to also be patient and not only focus on grammar.
This week a university class I am in gave these tools to help teachers use technology better.
