An Effective Organization is Adaptive to Change
To begin, Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence expounds
on the importance of having change and suggests that those who have initiative
are the rarest and most needed in the business world. In the publication “A
Message to Garcia, Will You Deliver It?” We can find a brave analysis on the
ability to execute, along with instincts, habits, and attitudes of truly courageous
people. “The ability to execute is more valuable than education or talent, because
it is far rarer.”
Following this, directions are illustrated on how to build a world-class team around you. We must make the vision and mission clear, and I believe one of the most important aspects listed is hiring leaders who know how to get the job done too. On several occasions I have observed that often LinkedIn would be searched in order for many businessmen to find experts and leaders in certain fields. Take time to coach those who have proved they can execute is also an aspect I am sure a lot of business people ignore. They do not care or take time to train others. I can see this being hard to do when you have a growing business. I had this experience this week where a very busy leader who actually said that he was at the busiest time of year. He took time out just for me to interview him saying though he has this request daily, he would make an exception for me. It was touching and I suspect it was due to this principle. We had one interaction prior where I offered to help him with an emergency medical visa from where I live in order to help a child be transported to the USA for some needed medical care in a Texas hospital. Since I executed and was able to deliver the needed preparations voluntarily.
Undoubtedly, time and time again all business leaders practically
plead to entrepreneurs to never stop learning. Carli Fiorina advises that capability,
collaboration, and character are more important than balance sheets, P&Ls,
Cashflows. Cash flow analysis is in fact something already decided or done, but
tells us the direction the business may go… but does not determine future. Some
companies can have great economical success but then fail to deliver the needs
for customer satisfaction. We must be open to listening to customers, discern
the improvements needed, and change. This is what innovation is all about.
Fiorina implies that vibrant people are the ones who stop learning new things. Here
is where Darwin’s quote on being adaptable definitely plays a role in the
entrepreneur’s life. Accordingly, you can find this reflection here: https://vimeo.com/412532462 .
